Apple did disappoint the millions of fanboys by launching the iPhone 4S with surprisingly nothing much but the Siri and a few additions, but with the new Apple iPhone 5, they have exceeded the expectations. Apple officially launched the new iPhone just after the company won the case against Samsung, just after Nokia announced their best smartphone ever, the Nokia Lumia 920, and just after Motorola came up with the Droid Razr HD version, but the iPhone 5 is something totally ahead of all the news.

The sleek device is the thinnest smartphone, being 18% thinner than the predecessor iPhone 4S device, and is totally made of Glass and Aluminum. The device is real thin, being just 7.6mm thick and weighs just 112gm, being 20% lighter than the previous iPhone. The iPhone 5 has a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen, and a screen resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. It’s become taller and has a retina display.

Apart from the external design, the interface too has got the changes. There would be 5 rows of app icons, and 4 shortcut icons in the bottom line. One of the best news with the launches is that the 700,000 apps available in the App Store right now, would be working fine in the iPhone 5. Integrated touch and an increase in color saturation by 44% makes the screen a better one although the size is increased. Apple boasts it to be the most accurate display in the industry, especially because the display itself holds the touch sensors.

Connectivity – The iPhone 5 now has the 4G LTE connectivity compatibility, apart from the network access to the HSPA+, DC-HSDPA networks. A single chip, a single radio and a dynamic antenna for the LTE connectivity. Apple has already tied up with most of the network carriers for the 4G LTE network connectivity on the iPhone 5.
The Wi-Fi is 802.11 a/b/g/n. The 802.11n is with dual-channel 5GHz frequency and it works to the maximum performance of 150 Mbps.

Performance – The A6 chip now embedded in the Apple iPhone 5 would have the double speeded CPU and the graphics too would load in the speeds double the previous versions.
Here are a few functions that have become faster –

  • Launching the Pages App – 2.1x
  • Saving Images from the iPhoto App – 1.7x
  • Loading Music App with songs – 1.9x
  • Viewing a Keynote attachment – 1.7x

Battery – Although we aren’t sure if the iPhone 5 might be providing the same battery life, Apple says there would be 8 hours of LTE browsing, or 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing. The same 8 hours would be the time taken by the iPhone 5 to drain the battery while talking through a 3G network or browsing the web using the same network.

Camera – The Apple iPhone 5 would be having an 8-megapixel camera, with the picture resolution being 3264 x 2448 pixels and there would be a 5-element lens, along with the backside illumination and an IR filter. The camera comes with a dynamic low light mode, a precision lens alignment and a sapphire crystal.

Adding up to the performance, the A6 chips would make the photo capture 40% faster with the spatial noise reduction and a smart filter for the noise reduction. Video Recording – The video is captured at 1080p HD quality, and there is an improved video stabilization, face detection and while you are recording a video, one can capture photos too.
Front Camera – The FaceTime camera can capture videos at 720p quality, and it too has the backside illumination and face detection.

What’s new?

  • The connector now is called the “Lightning” and it is All-digital, 8 signal design and it comes with an adapter.
  • There’s the Apple iOS 6 operating system, with again a huge list of changes from the previous version and its updates.
  • Siri has been integrated with the social networking apps like Facebook etc. and thus the productivity of the automator increases.
  • FaceTime can be done from anywhere now, rather than just relying on Wi-Fi as it did earlier
