The monsoon is being witnessed at heights by the people all over the country. And so is by the folks of Jammu and Kashmir. The steadily falling drops have successfully brought relief for one and all in the regions of the state. For those who are fond of rain, this seems to be the gala time but for those who are not much fond of it is likely disappointing. As they say, there are always two sides of a coin. No subject or topic of discussion has a single view point. So is the case with the “Monsoon Rains”. Come rain is the song headed by the rain lovers and come shine by the other groups who wish for the bright light of the sun to evade the days of natural showers. The question that heads is “Is Rain a Bane or a BOON” ?

Exploring the positive aspect we see the happiness and enchanting love and laughter it brings with it. The dewdrops of rain always bring smile on the faces of the people. Yes, the ever so much talked about smell of the wet soil, those slosh of puddles under our feet which simply drive us to dance candidly.

ENJOY THE OBLIVION
LET THE RAIN KISS YOU.
LET THE RAIN BEAT UPON YOUR HEAD WITH THE SILVER LIQUID DROPS.
LET THE RAIN SING YOU A LULLABY.

That inexplicably wonderful feeling that makes the heart go romantic. The much heated up areas of the city became covered with the glistening rain three days back when the monsoon hit hard. Gazing out of the window, seeing the scenic wonder of the vivid sky, those dark clouds moving towards me, I adore every part of rains being a Come Rain person personally. What I noticed was the little tapping on my window which in no time turned into pitter patter heavily. The masses of cocktail blue shades turning grey. The intensity at heights. The Amazonian shower on its level peak. The downpour that was being initially grooved became a cause of concern. The follow up remained the same the next 3 days and then it just struck my head that a city like ours is also no safe from the havoc and the bane part of the Rains. The sky pouring with showers and the sun nowhere in the scene from dawn to dusk.
The only noise you could hear is of the rain, though better than the human differences but still required to stop now. Excess of everything is bad, as the wise have quoted.

Do not be angry with the rain, it simply does not know how to fall upwards”.

However the bane part brought misery for some regions surrounding the rivers and people settled near the banks of the rivers. Reportedly, 10 people have been killed and several others have been displaced due the flash floods in Jammu region. Most of them are said to be killed due to houses being collapsed or being washed away. The distressing rains over past 3 days have damaged roads, bridges, caused problems for transportation etc. The SRINAGAR – JAMMU highway was also closed due to the landslides at several places. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir meteorological office has forecast light to moderate rain at many places in Jammu region, warning that a heavy downpour could also occur in some places. Despite of the challenges, relief operations are on functioning providing best possible help to people.

God didn`t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but he did promise STRENGTH for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way”.
