Nvidia first reveals to investors that GTA V is coming to the PC in August or September then retracts statement blaming it on ‘enthusiasm’.

Graphics cards maker Nvidia seems to have been either caught showing over-enthusiasm for GTA V or inadvertently leaking confidential details regarding the game’s launch. In its earning call last week, Nvidia’s Senior Director of Investor Relations, Chris Evenden stated, “…(PC) gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall (August or September), including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin’s Creed IV.” This is pretty huge news because so far Rockstar has stayed mum on any details about GTA V’s PC launch causing many PC gamers to worry if, like Red Dead Redemption, GTA V will not be launched for the PC.

However, when the GTA V information started getting plenty of press after being spotted by Crave Online, Nvidia released another statement: “Please note, during our Thursday’s earnings call, our investor relations team provided a list of important games that gamers are looking forward to on PC this fall, and included Grand Theft Auto V on that list. This statement was made with the intent of expressing enthusiasm for the games industry in general, and was not intended to represent specific knowledge possessed by Nvidia. Nvidia does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability. We deeply regret the error.”

While Nvidia seems to be blaming the entire thing on over-enthusiasm, it’s a distinct possibility that their later statement was made after pressure from Rockstar. After all, an earnings call to investors is a big thing and it’s unlikely that a stark error like this could be made in passing. But then again, being an exclusive PC gamer and a fan of GTA Vice City, it could just be wishful thinking on my part.

Still, going by the trend, the odds are strongly in favour of a PC version of GTA V. Every single GTA game in the past (except for the ones developed primarily for handheld consoles and mobiles) has been released for the PC and it would be stupid for Rockstar to bypass the PC for their biggest game in years.
